Clinton Foundation Failed to Disclose $1 Million Qatar Donation Received While Hillary was Sec. of State

The Clinton Foundation has admitted it received a donation of one million dollars from Qatar while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, according to Reuters. The Foundation also acknowledged not informing the Obama administration of the foreign nation’s donation, in violation of a disclosure agreement between the Foundation and the U.S. federal government.

From Reuters:

The Clinton Foundation has confirmed it accepted a $1 million gift from Qatar while Hillary Clinton was U.S. secretary of state without informing the State Department, even though she had promised to let the agency review new or significantly increased support from foreign governments.

….

Clinton signed an ethics agreement governing her family’s globe-straddling foundation in order to become secretary of state in 2009. The agreement was designed to increase transparency to avoid appearances that U.S. foreign policy could be swayed by wealthy donors.

In mid-October, Wikileaks revealed that the Clinton Foundation had been offered a one million-dollar check from Qatar “promised for WJC’s birthday in 2011.”

“WJC” is short for “William Jefferson Clinton,” or former President Bill Clinton. The email was sent to both Foundation and campaign officials in April of this year.

The new revelation reported by Reuters comes after Foundation officials refused to confirm the Qatar donation in October. However, a spokesman told the news outlet that the gift had been received, though Brian Cookstra also claimed the money didn’t equate to a “material increase” in support for the Foundation by Qatar.

Qatar is just one of an estimated eight nations that donated money to the Foundation while Clinton, now the Democratic Party’s White House nominee, was Secretary of State. Like some of the other nations, it has a poor record on human rights, including for women’s rights.

Some FBI agents wanted to investigate the Clinton Foundation for possible lawbreaking, but senior officials said there was not enough evidence to do so. This has led to accusations that DOJ officials were protecting Hillary from damaging revelations as she ran for President of the United States.
