Bernie Supporter Slams Hillary at Clinton Campaign Rally

A self-described supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) slammed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at a campaign rally yesterday. The viral video of Caleb Vanfosson’s brief comments, which can be seen here or below, shows the Iowa State University Students for Bernie Club president criticizing Clinton for allegedly not caring about student debt.

“The only thing [Clinton] cares about is pleasing her donors, the billionaires that fund her election,” said Vanfosson, who was quickly escorted off the stage. “The only people who really trust Hillary are Goldman Sachs. Citigroup can trust Hillary. The military industrial complex can trust Hillary.”

The crowd of mostly students offered several cheers for Vanfosson as he spoke, as well as when he was led offstage. Sanders later spoke at the same rally, and urged his supporters to stand behind Clinton.

NBC’s local affiliate reports that Vanfosson said after his speech that he didn’t want to be a “puppet boy” for the Clinton campaign.

“They were wanting me to be this puppet boy that they could use to show that hey, Bernie people are bowing down to the establishment now, we’re all good, but we’re still angry, we’re still tired of this system of oppression that we live under and I knew I had to do it the moment I got the call.”

Vanfosson didn’t just direct his onstage anger against Clinton; he also called Trump a “part-time reality TV show star and full-time bigot” who “is failing to even talk about this issue” of student debt.

The Real Clear Politics average of polls shows Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump with a three-point lead in Iowa, though a recent Des Moines Register poll gave him a seven-point lead over Clinton.
