Support The StreamBeautiful Churches: Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
There are different types of Alexander Nevsky Cathedrals, but this one can be found in the the Tallinn Old Town in Estonia.
This Russian Orthodox church was completed in the year 1900 on Toompea Hill and hold’s Tallinn’s largest bell, which weighs about 16 tons. It was built when Estonia was a part of the Russian Empire when many Estonians resented the “Russification.”
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was ignored and left to decay when the atheistic U.S.S.R. took over Estonia, but after Estonia gained independence from the U.S.S.R. in 1991, Estonians worked to meticulously restore the long-neglected structure.
