An Anchor for the Heart
Though I don’t know what you’ve gone through, my friend, I do know it’s impossible to live in this broken world without being sliced by its edges. It may be a daily battle for you to trust that God cares about your life. The foundation of your faith may seem so riddled with holes, you’re not sure what you believe anymore.
But remember, faith isn’t a feeling. It’s an active decision to trust and retrust God, even when it feels like your world has been turned upside down. When you choose to trust God, you anchor your heart to the bedrock of His unfailing love and unchanging character. So when the rains come down and the floods rise up, your life is grounded in four unshakeable truths.
- God is good. His heart toward you is unchanging and perfect. Our good and all-wise Father loves to give “good and perfect gift[s]” (James 1:17). You can trust Him to provide everything you need — at the right time and in the right way.
- God loves you. His love is so vast, it “surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19). But don’t let that keep you from receiving and believing it. For as you get “rooted and established in love” (v. 17), you will be “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (v. 19).
- You belong to Him. You’ve been reconciled to the Father by the precious blood of Jesus (Colossians 1:20). You don‘t have to earn His favor; it’s already been given to you. You’re His beloved child, and nothing can touch your life without His permission.
- God takes care of His own. You can rely on God’s provision, protection, and power. Though the “earth give way” and the “mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” You don’t have to worry — for God will be your “ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1-2).
So on those not-so-great days when your faith wavers and fear knocks at the door, take a moment and whisper these truths to your soul. God is good. He loves me. I belong to Him, and He takes care of His own.
Allow God’s unchanging love and ever-present kindness to flow over your heart and fill in every hole. Hold tight to Jesus’ hand and let Him strengthen and lead you. Declare “I trust You, Lord!” over your situation. Say it over and over until worry gives way to peace.
Though Satan may huff and puff and try to blow your faith down, remember who you belong to and refuse to be afraid. For your house is built on the Rock of Ages. A firm and steady foundation that will never give way.
