Five American troops and two U.S. military contractors were wounded earlier this week when an Iran-backed terrorist proxy group fired rockets at Al Asad Airbase in western Iraq.

While reports of the attack began to circulate on Monday, the full scope wasn’t known until about 24 hours later, when Fox News Pentagon producer Liz Friden shared the troubling news on X.

Citing Reuters, Fox reported that “at least two Katyusha rockets were fired towards the base,” which houses hundreds of American troops stationed in western Iraq to battle the remnants of ISIS.

“Base personnel are conducting a post-attack damage assessment,” said a U.S. military official, as quoted by Fox. “We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

The Stream reported on another attack aimed at Al Asad last week, which thankfully did not cause any injuries to military or civilian personnel. The Iran-backed strikes are occurring as the world awaits the Islamic regime’s expected attack on Israel, which has been busy hunting down and taking out commanders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist groups responsible for the October 7 massacre and additional attacks on the Jewish state.

We will have much more on this significant story in Friday’s weekly Service & Sacrifice column. Until then, please join The Stream in praying for the seven injured troops and civilians, as well as their families and all U.S. military personnel serving in the Middle East and overseas.
