12 Political Predictions for 2017
What will the unpredictable Donald Trump do? What will the Democrats do in return? Much is up in the air.
It’s a good year to be a Republican, but a hard year to predict. What radical changes will Donald Trump make in government? Will he be involved in a scandal? Will the Democrats try to take him out? Will some Republicans rebel? Here are my twelve predictions for 2017 in politics.
Obamacare will be repealed.
Donald Trump said repeal of Obama’s signature accomplishment would be one of his first actions as president. While crafting a replacement for the failed healthcare plan may take longer than a year, expect Congress to repeal Obamacare within a few months, as even Democrats jump on board.
Indictments will be handed down in the Clinton Foundation investigation as Bill and Hillary cut deals.
The DOJ has never stopped investigating the Clinton Foundation, and an inside FBI source has said there will be indictments. Former U.S. Attorney Joseph DiGenova told the Daily Caller News Foundation the former President βis at least a witness in two criminal investigations, probably a subject in two criminal investigations. He is a person of interest officially to the Department of Justice.β Since Hillary lost the presidency and the Clinton Foundation is shrinking, no one’s very eager to prosecute her. Expect a handful of Clinton cronies to take plea deals of mostly wrist slaps.
Building the “big beautiful wall” on the U.S.-Mexican border will begin.
Trump’s promised wall will result in a decrease in illegal immigration and violent crime, as the drug cartels and ISIS find it more difficult to enter the country. Additionally, Trump will reverse Obama’s policy of allowing thousands of Islamic refugees to settle in the U.S. unscreened.
Trump will nominate Judge William Pryor to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, and after a long, drawn-out fight in Congress, he will be confirmed.
Trump issued a list of 21 potential nominees, and Pryor may be the most conservative. He has referred to Roe v. Wade as the “worst abomination in the history of constitutional law.” However, he opposed former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore on displaying a monument of the Ten Commandments in the courthouse, and personally prosecuted him when he was Alabama Attorney General. There will be a brutal fight in the Senate over his nomination, but since the Republicans have control, and since the seat has been sitting open for months, he will be confirmed.
Common Core will be dismantled around the country, as Trump eliminates the federal funding penalties for states that opt out.
Trump said he would get rid of Common Core, which he refers to as a “disaster.” Education secretary nominee Betsy DeVos has made the same pledge. They will eliminate the federal Race to the Top initiative, which had coerced states into adopting Common Core in order to receive federal funds and waivers from regulations. Then states will easily be able to pass laws eliminating the failed program.
Trump will reverse the Obama federal land grabs.
Trump will reverse some of the last-minute federal land grabs Obama rammed through, including the land that Cliven Bundy let his cattle graze on. It is not clear whether he has the authority to do so, but he will figure out how to accomplish it legally or find a workaround.
ISIS will be pushed back.
With the help of the U.S. and other allies, ISIS will be pushed out of parts of Iraq and retreat to Syrian strongholds. While it will maintain a strong social media presence, with sporadic terrorist attacks around the world (although few in the U.S.), its physical territory and numbers will shrink.
The Iran deal will be undermined, if not reversed.
Trump and the Republican Congress will create unfavorable conditions for American businesses and allies to do business with and invest in Iran.
The left will increase its attacks on Trump.
There will be no honeymoon period for Trump, as we’ve already seen. The left has fomented so much anger toward Trump that there will be attempts to remove him from office, an increased onslaught of attacks in the media and on social media, and physical threats against him. The Secret Service will take on a much larger role, and will be much more visible around Trump.
The economy will greatly improve as Trump and Congress lower taxes and regulations, keeping jobs in the U.S. and bringing some back.
Foreign corporations that had shunned the U.S. under Obama will open up subsidiaries in the U.S., creating tens of thousands of jobs. U.S. corporations that had shipped jobs overseas will bring them back. Unemployment will steadily drop and income levels and job benefits will creep back up.
The influence of the mainstream media will decline sharply.
Trump has announced he will be expanding access to White House press conferences beyond the elite Washington news organizations. He’ll even include bloggers. He already uses Twitter to communicate directly with the American people, bypassing news coverage. Trump detests the mainstream media, which he says puts out fake news. He will increase the role of alternative and conservative news sources, speeding up the shrinking of The New York Times, CNN, etc. Conservative news outlets like Fox News will get exclusives, increasing their prominence.
Barack Obama will become king of a small country.
Obama will find a third world country to appoint him as king. Probably not Kenya, since he hasn’t paid much attention to his father’s country. The country will be so happy to have a former American president as their king, that everyone will look the other way as he uses the position mostly to continue his lavish lifestyle taking his family on trips around the world.
